Cell Membrane bound Organelles
Endoplasmic reticulum: The endoplasmic reticulum is a type of organelle made up of two subunits – rough endoplasmic reticulum, and smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
Golgi bodies: The Golgi apparatus is an organelle in eukaryotic organisms that moves molecules from the endoplasmic reticulum to their destination. The organelle also modifies products of the endoplasmic reticulum to their final form.
Vacuoles: A vacuole is a membrane-bound organelle which is present in all plant and fungal cells and some protist, animal and bacterial cells.
Lysosomes: A lysosome is a membrane-bound cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes. Lysosomes are involved with various cell processes. They break down excess or worn-out cell parts.
Nucleus: The nucleus is a membrane-bound organelle that contains genetic material (DNA) of eukaryotic organisms. As such, it serves to maintain the integrity of the cell by facilitating transcription and replication processes.
Plastid: The plastid is a membrane-bound organelle found in the cells of plants, algae, and some other eukaryotic organisms. They are considered endosymbiotic Cyanobacteria, related to the Gloeomargarita.
Mitochondria: Mitochondria are membrane-bound cell organelles (mitochondrion, singular) that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cell’s biochemical reactions.
Microbodies: A microbody is a type of organelle that is found in both plant and animal cells. The organelles in the microbody family include peroxisomes, glyoxysomes, glycosomes, and hydrogenosomes.
