Why is hydrogen not considered to be an alkali metal?

An alkali metals, as we know, is a group of elements which includes the first two groups or periods on the periodic table. These elements are considered as such because they all have low electronegativity and low ionisation enthalpies. Hydrogen has an enthalpy value almost double that of Lithium but so close to nitrogen or oxygen- which are by all means non metals.

So, if hydrogen is not an alkali metal, then what is it? It is indeed a metal & can be labeled as one of the most reactive metals. Hydrogen has an atomic number of 1 & symbolized by H. For many years, scientists have been constructing several theories to predict the existence of hydrogen. Surprisingly, all of them are effective in defining its existence.
